Arri was invited by NASA to Cape Kennedy in July of 2011 to bring three Alexa digital cinema cameras to shoot the last Space Shuttle launch, STS-135.
I was quite honored to be asked by Arri to be the Cinematographer for this project. It was the experience of a lifetime.
This shot was made from a remote controlled camera position located 1,000 feet from launch pad 39A, with a prototype Alexa that was modified to shoot at 120 frames per second.
This was the first time that an Alexa shot on an actual project at 120 fps.
